Steroid Usage
Anabolic Steroids
In the late 1800's and early 1900's when sports were relatively new to America, it was virtually impossible to find an athlete that used steroids to improve their athletic performance. However, times have changed, and it seems that every corner you turn there's another inspirational star destroying their reputation with the drug. Anabolic Steroids enhance the muscle mass and body endurance of athlete significantly. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, athletes were admired no matter what their size. If you look at pictures of professional athletes from this time period, you will notice that many of them look quite small and weak. On the other hand, it is very hard to find a professional athlete now-a-days that isn't more muscular than the average citizen. As expectations have been raised, many individuals are caving under the pressure to be just a little faster, stronger, or quicker. Because of their desire to fit in with their peers, or even an amateur's desire to become a pro, more and more athletes have begun to take steroids. Whether their motives are from laziness or from society's seemingly unbearable pressure to become better then they feel they can on their own, the fact remains that the number of athletes using steroids to enhance their performance continues to grow.
