The Inventions of Radio and Television
Early Radio/Television set
Before the television and radio, fans had to physically attend games in order to get a play-by-play experience of a game. Once these two incredible technological items were available, that changed drastically. Of all the major inventions of the twentieth century, few have had a more profound impact on people's lives than radio and television. By 1933, two-thirds of American homes had at least one radio, twice as many as those with telephones. These inventions allowed fans from all around the country keep track of their favorite teams in the games that were too far for personal travel. Thousands of more individuals could now keep track of the details of games, and ensure themselves that the reporters for the newspapers didn't leave out any details. The radio and television revolutionized sports fantoms, and aided the increased intensity of fan dedication since they could now be a greater part of each game.
