Charlie Chaplin
Charlie Chaplin was born on April 16, 1889 in England and died on December 25, 1977. He was one of the first superstars of Film and he was also an actor, writer, composer, and director. His early life had been tough with his father leaving and then not having enough money after his mom lost her voice and could no longer sing. That was when he started to preform with a dancing troupe and do all sorts of odd jobs without ever losing sight of his goal to be an actor. In 1914 Charlie was in his first movie, Make a Living. To make himself different from other actors, from here he decided he would play a single character known as "The Little Tramp". When asked about this character in an interview he said "It all came about in an emergency. The cameraman said put on some funny make-up, and I hadn't the slightest idea what to do. I went to the dress department and, on the way, I thought, well, I'll have them make everything in contradiction" which makes it sound like in the beginning this character wasn't really planned very well, but it did work out for him. Throughout this time he made many great films, including One A.M. and Easy Street. Chaplin became very well known for the work that he was doing, and he said of his work, in the same interview that was mentioned previously, "The summation of my character is that I care about my work. I care about everything I do. If I could do something else better, I would do it, but I can't." This makes it sound like he truly did like the work that he did and that he was happy doing his work. Chaplin was also famous for the affairs that he had off screen. Starting in 1918 he had four marriages that didn't work out until his marriage in 1943 that lasted and resulted in eight children. Because of all of his marriages Chaplin was eventually not allowed into some states, and eventually banned from the United States after one of his films, until 1972 when he won an Oscar. Also, Chaplin was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1975. With all of these things Charlie Chaplin was someone who was famous among the people, and the people wanted to know things about his life and everything was available about his life because of television and his movies unlike in the past without these things.
